A group of 12–15 caravans, previously stationed on the pitch of Redcar Athletic football club in Teesside, has moved to a site near Redcar racecourse after receiving a court order. Authorities have issued a new notice requiring them to leave the area by 6pm Friday.
The club president said the pitch may have suffered damage, which will be assessed after an inspection. Earlier, according to Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, the group had been ordered to vacate the land by 12:00 BST on Thursday, with further enforcement action threatened if they failed to comply. Cleveland Police confirmed that the notice had been served and that the eviction process was ongoing.
The arrival of the caravans on Sunday led to the cancellation of matches and children's courses scheduled for the week.
