In Trenton, a fire in an RV at the Narrow Too campground started in the refrigerator unit; all occupants exited before firefighters arrived. In Newburgh, a fire destroyed an RV at a rest area off I-95; the owners smelled burning plastic and escaped with their pet.
According to Bangor Daily News, on Monday an RV belonging to a Newburgh couple burned to the ground on I-95 near Bangor. They were heading to northern Maine when they smelled smoke and pulled into a rest area at mile 175. The couple and their pets got out before firefighters arrived. Hampden Deputy Fire Chief Jason Lundstrom said the RV was fully engulfed when the crew arrived. The cause was likely a mechanical failure of the refrigerator. No injuries were reported.
On Tuesday morning, an RV caught fire at the Narrows Too Campground in Trenton. All occupants exited before firefighters arrived. The RV sustained significant damage and is no longer operable. Fire crews from several neighboring towns responded. According to the fire department, the fire started at 7:47 a.m., people were evacuated before arrival, and no injuries were reported. Due to the size of modern RVs, comparable to commercial buses, automatic mutual aid was activated. Firefighters from Trenton, Ellsworth, Hancock, and Lamoine jointly extinguished the fire, preventing spread to nearby campsites and trees. The cause of the fire was a refrigerator unit malfunction. Campground staff are assisting the victims with alternative housing.
