On Friday, July 31, 2026, two camper van fires occurred in France.
In Matignon (Côtes-d'Armor), around 3:30 PM, a camper van caught fire on private property. The flames spread to vegetation, destroying 2,000 m². No injuries were reported.
On the A31 motorway between Metz and Nancy, near Belleville, a camper van caught fire while heading towards Nancy. The alert was raised shortly after 2:00 PM. The vehicle was on the hard shoulder, but a traffic jam quickly formed. According to DIR Est, at 2:30 PM the queue was 7 km long; half an hour later it stretched to Loisy, about 6 km. Traffic was blocked on both lanes for over an hour; by 3:00 PM the fire was extinguished, but only the left lane was reopened. Drivers were advised to bypass the section via exit 27 (Atton-Nomen). Traffic was heavy due to the start of the holiday season; Bison Futé declared a "red" day for northeastern France.
