In Bouaye (Loire-Atlantique), since July 12, 2026, about 15 caravans, trailers and vehicles have illegally set up on the grounds of the environmental centre Maison du lac. The department reported immediate notification of authorities and a bailiff's inventory. Due to extreme drought, unauthorised electrical connections pose a high risk of fire and electrocution, endangering visitors and staff. The site is a protected Natura 2000 area, the second most important ornithological reserve in France after the Camargue, and the illegal occupation may harm public health and the environment through waste and wastewater. Maison du lac has asked the prefect to take action to end the illegal occupation and eliminate the danger.
