In Talant, near Dijon, around 100 motorhomes, caravans and camper vans occupied a sports field in May, costing the municipality €10,000 in water and electricity over three weeks. Mayor Adrien Guené ordered 1.5-tonne concrete blocks to block access, adding another €10,000 to the bill. Similar occupations occurred in Viry, Vourles and Tarnos, while Landes issued 29 eviction orders this year, up from 13 in the previous two years combined. The issue stems from a shortage of designated areas for travelling communities.
