Driver Confuses Pedals, Motorhome Plunges Down Cliff in Germany

A German publication has released a detailed checklist for preparing to leave a campsite in a motorhome, camper, or caravan. The list covers securing the interior, checking the gas cylinder, external equipment, and hitch for trailers, aiming to prevent common mistakes like leaving a window open or the gas valve unclosed.

The ACV Automobil-Club Verkehr will have its own stand at this year's Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, held from August 28 to September 6. At stand E05 in Hall 15, the club will present its roadside assistance services for motorhomes and caravans, including 24/7 breakdown help in Germany and Europe, towing and repatriation, and support for caravan combinations, as well as travel preparation services and the Camping Card International.

Vöhringer, Motive Development and CityFreighter have unveiled a concept vehicle built on the fully electric Evolve skateboard platform. The platform offers more usable living space, a completely flat floor, and increased standing height. The demonstrator features a 128 kWh battery pack and weighs under 3.5 tonnes. The practical range is stated to exceed 400 km, already achieved in road tests. DC fast charging at 200 kW can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. The concept will be displayed at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf.

German manufacturer Vario Mobil will present the Perfect 1200 QS Platinum at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf (August 28 – September 6). The 12-meter, 26-ton motorhome, based on a Mercedes Actros 2553 LLL, features a 530 hp engine, four slide-outs expanding living space to 35 square meters, and a garage that can accommodate a Porsche 911 or Maserati MC20. Inside, there is a king-size bed, American walnut and slate trim, and a gas-free heating system.

On Saturday, August 23, a motorhome rolled down a slope at the Rheinaue parking lot on the B9 near Rheinzabern. According to the fire department, the occupants sustained only minor injuries. Firefighters secured the vehicle, removed two gas cylinders, and disconnected the batteries. The injured were taken to a hospital, and a specialized company was contracted to recover the motorhome.

MAN Truck & Bus presents the MAN TGE at Caravan Salon 2026 in Düsseldorf as a versatile platform for camping and motorhome concepts. At stand E59 in Hall 16, two MAN TGE models are on display, featuring new equipment options such as the KombiFree Package and Lion X Package from MAN Individual, along with a new Reimo pop-up roof that increases headroom.
