In Boise County, Idaho, heavy rains on July 24, 2026, caused a mudslide that struck the Grand Jean Campground in the Sawtooth National Forest. According to local authorities, no campers were injured. The slide destroyed vehicles and campers and littered the area with debris.
The U.S. Forest Service closed the campground and the Grand Jean Trail indefinitely to clear stuck vehicles and boulders. Highway 21 was closed due to a landslide. The mudslide was exacerbated by the scar from the 2024 Wapiti Fire, which left the terrain vulnerable to flooding.
