An early morning fire on Tuesday completely destroyed a camper on North Whidbey. Three engines and other vehicles from North Whidbey Fire and Rescue responded to the fire around 2:30 a.m., according to Deputy Chief Ray Merrill. Access to the camper, located at the end of a long dirt driveway on Hunt Road, was difficult, but firefighters extinguished the fire within 10 minutes of arrival. The sole occupant escaped unharmed. The fire also damaged a couple of nearby trees and a deck, but no other structures or vehicles were affected. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
