An elderly man died in Palmetto, Florida, while attempting to extinguish a fire in a converted camper using a garden hose. The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on May 6 in the 1100 block of 39th St. E. The fire was likely electrical in origin, according to North River Fire District Chief Joseph Sicking. Firefighters found the man deceased at the scene; the Fire Marshal and Manatee County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
