Fatal fire in Palmetto

On May 6 at approximately 00:45, in the 1100 block of 39th Avenue East in Palmetto, Florida, an elderly man died while attempting to put out a fire in a converted camper using a garden hose. Preliminary reports indicate the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Firefighters found the man's body at the scene. The investigation is being conducted by the fire marshal and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Cocaine sentence in burnt camper

Kelly Louise Daly, 42, of Brooklyn, New York, was convicted of cocaine possession and trafficking. The incident occurred in Yancey County, North Carolina, following Hurricane Helene. On December 15, 2024, while moving the camper she lived in, a fire broke out; police discovered approximately 303.77 grams of cocaine in the vehicle's remains. According to sources, Daly posed as a hurricane recovery volunteer. She was sentenced to 70–93 months (5 years 10 months to 7 years 9 months) in prison and fined $100,000 for trafficking.
