A motorhome caught fire on Saturday 24 October at kilometre 968 of the A-7 near Benagalbón, in the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria, while travelling towards Málaga in the right-hand lane. Flames appeared at the rear of the vehicle. According to the traffic authority DGT, all three lanes towards Málaga were closed for an hour and queues stretched more than two kilometres. After 17:30 the left lane reopened, while two lanes stayed shut as firefighters worked at the scene.
Flames reached a wooded area
Shortly after 16:30 the 112 emergency service received several calls about a burning vehicle and a large column of smoke. Witnesses tried to put out the first flames. Firefighters from the provincial consortium, Guardia Civil traffic officers and 061 medical services were sent. Because the fire had spread to a wooded area beside the road, Infoca forest fire crews were also called in. The motorhome was completely burnt out. Nobody was injured and the damage was material only. Traffic returned to normal about an hour after the fire broke out.
On Friday night a lorry burnt out in Fuengirola on Avenida Dulcinea in the Las Salinas industrial estate. The alert came in after 22:00 and firefighters, local police and national police attended. Nobody was hurt.
