On May 17, a group of about 50 caravans left the A40 motorway rest area in Étrembières after eviction proceedings began. The same day, they attempted to occupy a private field in Neydens, but owners and a local deputy prevented this, with the deputy receiving death threats. Mayor Caron Vincent expressed dissatisfaction with the authorities' inaction and lack of solutions. By evening, about 60 caravans headed to an unused field in Saint-Julien.
Separately, in Montbéliard, dozens of traveler caravans illegally occupied the sports field "La Banane" behind the Roselière district. The installation occurred the previous day, May 16. A reaction from local authorities is expected, possibly an eviction procedure.
