In Cabariot (Charente-Maritime), about 180 traveler caravans have occupied the municipal sports complex. The group from Tresses (Gironde) settled on three football fields and adjacent areas because of forest fires in Gironde. Mayor Ulrich Boisson is negotiating with group representatives. Earlier, on the night of July 27, 2026, about 40 caravans entered the Pierre Maigret sports complex in Bethoncourt. By 9 a.m., 60 more joined, bringing the total to about 100. The municipality filed a complaint and started procedures to end the illegal occupation, which may last about a week.
