County Donegal, Ireland, has experienced several incidents involving campervans and caravans.

Attack on a family

A family from Waterford had to cut short their holiday after unknown individuals pelted their campervan with eggs and verbally abused them near Pollen Bay in Ballyliffin. Local residents condemned the attack.

Break-in and hit-and-run

At a caravan park in Rossnowlagh on March 29–30, intruders forced open a caravan door but stole nothing. Gardaí are also seeking a campervan that fled the scene of a collision with a bus on July 21 on the R238 road in Buncrana. The bus sustained damage: a broken side mirror and driver-side window.

Near-flooding and parking issues

In Portnablagh, a high tide nearly flooded a caravan and a campervan — owners had not accounted for the rising water, and holidaymakers had to push the campervan off the beach. County authorities have also called for action against illegal campervan parking at the pier in Donegal Town, where up to 30 vans parked overnight in summer, taking up 2–3 spaces and blocking footpaths. Councillor Tom Conaghan proposed appointing a permanent inspector to patrol the area.

The plush cars and campervans sunk on Gwynedd graveyard beach in 2025

Vehicle strandings at Traeth y Graig Ddu beach in Gwynedd increased significantly in 2025, with an estimated 30 cars and motorhomes recovered. A local farmer using a tractor performed most rescues as drivers, often from cities, misjudged the rapid tides and parked too low on the sand. Approximately one-third of the vehicles were submerged by seawater, leading to likely insurance write-offs.

Cork council to investigate after concerns boat and campervan owners are dumping human waste into sea

Cork County Council has launched an investigation into the possible illegal discharge of effluent by boat and campervan owners. The move follows complaints about coastal pollution, including the loss of Blue Flag status at Fountainstown Beach. The county has only one civic campervan/motorhome facility with waste disposal, in Cobh, but reports have emerged of human waste being dumped into the sea near Cuskinny beach and other scenic spots in West Cork.
