Fires in motorhomes and caravans
A series of fires in motorhomes and caravans has been recorded in Germany and Switzerland. In Ellwangen (Germany) on April 21, 2026, a motorhome caught fire while driving. The driver noticed smoke from the ventilation, pulled over, and found open flames under the hood. Firefighters arrived with 31 personnel but could not save the vehicle; damage estimated at €18,000.
On the night of April 19, 2026, in the Zug district of Freiberg (Germany), a motorhome caught fire. The fire was registered by police around 1:15 a.m. after a report from the rescue control center in Chemnitz. Police and firefighters responded.
On the night of April 14, 2026, in Bremen (Germany), a motorhome was completely destroyed by fire. High temperatures damaged windows of two houses, another vehicle, and garbage bins. Police are investigating the cause; damage estimated at a five-figure sum.
On December 27, 2025, at a campsite on Lake Mondsee in Speyer (Germany), a caravan caught fire. According to preliminary estimates by firefighters, damage amounted to around €70,000, and a neighboring caravan was also damaged. No injuries were reported; the cause is under investigation.
