On Monday 14 September around 17:35, a campervan caught fire in the Rosty tunnel on the A8 motorway in Nice. Traffic towards Italy was completely blocked for more than 2.5 hours, until 20:00. Three people inside the vehicle were evacuated by rescuers.
According to preliminary information, the fire may have started between a gas cylinder and an e-bike. Sixteen vehicles and 41 firefighters were on site. Traffic resumed after 20:00, but a multi-kilometre queue remained up to the Saint-Isidore toll.
According to another source, as of 19:00 traffic was still blocked, with a queue stretching almost 10 km from the Nice-Saint-Isidore toll, and travel time exceeding 2 hours. Light vehicles were required to leave the motorway at exit 55, while trucks remained on the motorway.
