On the afternoon of August 9, around 1 p.m., on the A22 motorway near Chiusa, a caravan detached from a passenger car and ended up in the passing lane, blocking northbound traffic. After the trailer came loose, the driver lost control and the car crashed into the guardrail.
The tourist family in the car was not injured but was taken to hospital for observation. According to sources, one female passenger sustained minor injuries. The car and caravan sustained significant damage. Traffic was temporarily halted to recover the caravan, then resumed on a single lane. A multi-kilometer traffic jam formed, with delays of about an hour and a half. Volunteer firefighters from Chiusa and Cardano, medics, and highway police worked at the scene.
