Two Spring Motorhome Festivals in Germany: Ratzeburg and Kamen

Nissan and German converter Eifelland have developed the Interstar-e Relax, an electric camper based on the Interstar-e van. It features an 87 kWh battery, a WLTP range of 410 km, and a 141 hp electric motor. Thanks to V2L capability, the standard Truma Eezy parking heater can run directly from the high-voltage battery, eliminating the need for external power or a diesel heater. The interior includes four seats, a kitchen with a 90-liter fridge, induction hob and sink, a fixed bed measuring 1.9 by 1.6 meters, and 2.6 cubic meters of storage. The vehicle will be publicly shown at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf from August 28 to September 6. The price is set at $102,000.

Bavarian towns are expanding and modernizing motorhome parking areas to attract affluent tourists. However, they face issues with unauthorized parking and rising fees. As of April 2025, over one million motorhomes are registered in Germany.

In Sandersdorf, the former campsite cinema known as the 'Tin Box' remains a cherished memory for permanent campers. The structure, with its characteristic arched halls made of corrugated metal, was built in the late 1950s and served as a meeting point and entertainment venue for vacationers, children, and locals. The cinema was part of a program to provide entertainment for campers, especially along the Baltic coast, and operated even in bad weather.

Volkswagen has introduced the Good Night package for the ID.Buzz, allowing two people to sleep comfortably in the vehicle. The kit includes a foldable mattress measuring 1.20 x 2 meters, blackout curtains, a table, two chairs, and ventilation grilles for the side windows. The price is 32,600 Norwegian kroner excluding VAT, about 40,000 kroner including VAT. From 2027, the ID.Buzz will also offer V2L capability and a camping mode.

Along the East Holstein coast, campsite operators are replacing traditional caravan pitches with mobile homes, tiny houses and glamping options. This increases occupancy and revenue while attracting new audiences. Motorhomes are overtaking caravans in popularity, but caravans remain relevant for families.
