Revised edition of DIY camper conversion book released in Japan

Kuroko Art Factory, based in Sagamihara, has developed the 'MOKUJIKU' trailer house with a wooden frame. The design allows flexible interior layouts. The product targets the travel trailer market as an alternative to conventional metal models.

Authorities in Ikeda, Gifu Prefecture, approved a renovation plan for the municipal Ikeda Onsen. The project includes updating buildings, creating a car sleeping area, a sauna resort, and accessible baths. Opening is scheduled for August 2027.

The municipal Iko Yama Campground (Ichikai, Tochigi Prefecture) will open on July 1, 2025, with the season running until November 30. Operating since 1993, the site offers scenic tent plots (3 units, 5,000 yen per night) and forest plots (6 units, 3,000 yen per night), plus covered barbecue areas. Reservations must be made 7 days in advance via the website.

Daytona has launched two new camping products: the Maehiro Dome E solo tent and the Car Side Shelter. The tent, priced at ¥28,820 (approx. $200), features a large vestibule that can accommodate a Super Cub-class motorcycle, designed for touring campers. The shelter, at ¥22,000 (approx. $150), attaches to vehicles via suction cups without tools, providing a shaded area for day trips or car camping. Both items come in forest khaki color.

Japanese custom shop Sunmile Auto, in collaboration with KINGS DIY, has unveiled a wood-paneled interior conversion for the Toyota HiAce. The cabin features glued laminated timber, a bed kit with Pendleton fabric, and camel leather seat covers with red check pattern. Exterior upgrades include LED projectors and a wide grille. Full custom orders are available.

Bears Rock tested an 8cm car sleeping mat on three popular SUVs: Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester, and Toyota Raize. The tests revealed different unevenness and height differences in each model's cabin. Using the mat reduced discomfort from bumps, improved pressure distribution, and stabilized sleeping posture.
