Residents of Trieste report a rise in the number of campers, vans, and tents on the Carso plateau, turning parking areas into unofficial campsites. One morning, 12 campers were spotted on Napoleonica road, mostly with foreign plates, some with people sleeping inside or nearby.
Local authorities are concerned about the lack of infrastructure and services for such tourism, which puts pressure on the region's fragile ecosystem. Proposals include creating new equipped camper areas with basic amenities. One resident warned: "Today there are 12 campers, tomorrow there could be 30 or 40."
