Toledo: Parking Problem for Motorhomes and Camper Vans

A motorhome was completely destroyed on Lavandeiras street in the Atios area. The fire started around 5:40 AM with no one inside, but flames damaged a nearby house's fence, utility meters, and a tree. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The owner of a motorhome rental company reports that high fuel prices have not reduced demand but changed travel patterns. Clients now opt for shorter routes, with rental prices during high season ranging from 125 to 175 euros per day. In La Rioja, 85% of motorhomes are already booked for local festivals, and about 60% for summer.

A second private initiative to create a motorhome area in the Oyambre Natural Park has been submitted for approval. Both projects, totaling 60 spaces in the Gerra area, were enabled by amendments to Cantabrian legislation that took effect in April 2025.

Traveling by motorhome allows for a combination of driving, walking pilgrimage stages, and sightseeing. To obtain the Compostela pilgrim certificate, one must walk at least 100 consecutive kilometers on one of the recognized routes, with the final stage ending in Santiago de Compostela. As of January 1, 2026, in Spain, a V16 warning lamp is mandatory for breakdowns instead of the warning triangle, and using awnings or chairs outside designated areas may be considered camping.

23-year-old Miriam from Spain published a breakdown of expenses for the first month of living in a motorhome with her partner. The total amount was 519.78 euros, including 320.77 euros for food and 126.16 euros for gasoline. Water was free thanks to a nearby access point, while electricity was provided by a solar panel.

The Socialist Party has proposed creating a specific parking area for motorhomes in the municipality of San Vicente del Raspeig. The initiative was raised during the March plenary session, suggesting the infrastructure could be located in an industrial park, following the example of other towns in the province of Alicante.
