Palma City Council plans to soon award a contract for the perimeter fencing of the parking area at the Son Hugo pools, where dozens of motorhomes are currently parked. Work is expected to begin in the coming weeks as the first phase of a municipal plan to prevent new vehicles from entering and stop the settlement from growing. The project is not a response to Wednesday's fire that destroyed three motorhomes, as the contracting process began in July. In April 2025, the council counted about 60 motorhomes at Son Hugo, the largest such settlement in Palma. The plan includes installing about 260 metres of fencing with a low wall and metal fence, closing gates at night, and later introducing an access control system based on licence plates or permits, so only pool and sports facility users can enter. The council currently rules out evicting residents.
