The municipality of Chamonix in Haute-Savoie has banned parking with accommodation for motorhomes, caravans and converted vans in several public and natural areas. The order of 5 August 2026 applies from 1 May to 31 October and covers car parks and areas in central Chamonix, Les Bossons, Les Praz, Argentière and the upper valley. Authorities cite overcrowded parking, litter and residents' complaints about neighbour problems, as well as the need to keep access routes clear for rescue services. Overnight options remain a dedicated car park for some converted vehicles at the entrance to Chamonix at Le Cry and campsites; a service area allows water refills and tank emptying but is not intended for overnight stays.
