The city of Daegu, South Korea, has announced a special inspection of public parking lots from June 8 to 29. The move follows resident complaints about inconvenience and safety risks caused by long-term parking of campers and caravans, as well as parking outside marked spaces.
A team of 30 officials from the city and district transport departments is involved. The inspection covers 202 city-owned lots (7,602 spaces) and 1,101 district lots (22,128 spaces). Particular attention is paid to overnight stays and cooking on the lots.
The inspection precedes amendments to the Parking Lot Act taking effect on August 28. The amendments prohibit long-term parking at free public lots without a valid reason and introduce a fine of up to 1 million won. Control criteria have been expanded to consider the entire lot, not just individual spaces.
