The mayor of Chamonix has signed an order banning motorhomes, camper vans and vans from parking in certain places and car parks between 1 May and 31 October. The rules prohibit staying in the same spot for more than 24 hours, parking outside designated areas and on natural sites, and sleeping in a vehicle from 22:00 to 07:00 on car parks, adjacent streets and forest edges. Violations carry a €35 fine. Two motorhome car parks operate on Route Blanche: one with 49 spaces for vehicles under 7 metres and another for longer models. A free service point near the Carrefour Market supermarket allows emptying and water filling from 1 May to 30 November, but parking there is not allowed. Authorities recommend campsites, where a guest card costing €10 provides free travel on the SNCF network from Servoz to Vallorcine and discounts on local transport and cultural facilities.
