New parking rules in Ayvalık
The Transport Coordination Centre (UKOME) of Balıkesir province unanimously banned the parking of motorhomes and caravans on roadsides in residential areas of Ayvalık, as well as on streets and roads within the town. Parking is now permitted only in specially designated areas and campsites.
The reason was complaints about long-term and chaotic placement of vehicles, especially in summer, on the coast, beaches and in public spaces. Authorities also noted that some owners arbitrarily fenced off areas, left rubbish and abandoned caravans for months, which hindered access to public spaces and created problems in emergency situations.
The new rules provide for the installation of road signs and increased enforcement.
