Local authorities in Pyeongchang County and road infrastructure managers have installed physical barriers, posts, heavy structures and planted trees on Daegwallyeong Pass (elevation 830 m) in Gangwon Province, South Korea. The measures aim to prevent long-term parking and overnight stays in campers (chabak). Previously, dozens of campers gathered there in summer, occupying parking lots and roadsides.
As a result, the number of campers has significantly decreased. However, some have moved to more remote areas, raising concerns about fires and environmental damage. Authorities cite complaints from local residents about noise and trash. Since 2023, an overnight parking ban for vehicles has been in effect on the pass.
