The Wichita Falls City Council unanimously approved a request to rezone more than 11 acres on Huntington Lane for a proposed RV park. The property at 29-11 Huntington Lane was rezoned from single-family residential to general commercial. Applicants Madison and Curry Kunkel plan to develop an RV park on 11.13 acres of their 62-acre agricultural property near U.S. 287, with approximately 100 RV pad sites, park pavilions, office and laundry space, playgrounds and a dog run. Residents raised concerns about the growing number of RV parks, potential use as temporary housing for construction workers, and increased traffic, lighting, noise and crime. Development Services Director Fabian Medellin said safety measures could include coordination with the Wichita Falls Police Department. The rezoning approval is only the first step; the applicants must still request a conditional use permit through the Planning and Zoning Commission. The city will not provide funding for the project.
