In Brief

Several new motorhome stops have opened in France: a private site at Domaine de Bagard (45 pitches, pool), a municipal project in Saint-Martin-de-Londres (27 pitches) sparked protests, and a 20-pitch stop in Sisteron joined the Camping-car park network.

New motorhome stops in France

In spring 2026, several new motorhome stops appeared in France. In the village of Saint-Martin-de-Londres (3,000 inhabitants, north of Montpellier), a municipal project for a 27-pitch stop on the site of a former stadium sparked controversy. Residents collected 500 signatures against the project, citing proximity to schools and flood risk. The mayor claims the stop will bring €178,000 per season to the local economy.

Meanwhile, since April 20, 2026, the private site Le Domaine de Bagard in Sauve (Gard) joined the RVR network. It offers 45 pitches, a swimming pool, a fitness room, and other services. In Sisteron, a 20-pitch stop opened on cours de la Libération, joining the Camping-car park network (800 stops and campsites).

Another motorhome stop has been created in an unnamed village: it features access control, electrical outlets, a dump station, and landscaped areas. The official opening is planned before the 2026 summer season.

Converting a caravan into a guest room risks a heavy fine

Using a caravan as a permanent guest room on a property may be classified as illegal construction. Under French law, if the caravan loses mobility (wheels removed, placed on a concrete base) and is used for more than three months a year, it is treated as a building. The fine for such a violation can reach €90,000, and the court may order demolition with a daily penalty of up to €500 for non-compliance.
