Plans for £8m holiday park behind Kirkby Fleetham pub

Portsmouth City Council's planning committee has refused an application to remove a condition requiring 80 overnight parking spaces for residents at the John Jenkins Stadium site. The charity Pompey in the Community, which runs the site, stated it cannot afford the estimated £200,000 scheme, potentially delaying the clubhouse completion. Local residents opposed the removal, citing severe parking shortages in Baffins, where 8,000–9,000 cars compete for 6,000–7,500 spaces.

A North Yorkshire retiree was mis-sold a holiday home as a permanent residence and subsequently subjected to a 'relentless campaign of harassment' by park staff, according to local MP Alison Hume. The man was forced to sell the home at a 60% loss, with the park reselling it four days later for a substantial profit. Simon John Turner, 49, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for defrauding three victims of approximately £190,000. He promised to help buy caravans and make investments but used fake invoices. The sentence was handed down in April 2026.
