Starting July 1, a pilot project will place five trailers for tourists in Mukawa, Hokkaido. The project is run by NTT Group (subsidiary NTT Landscape) at the 'Mukawa Onsen Shiki no Yakata' complex. The trailers operate as an unmanned hotel: check-in is done via a tablet with facial recognition.
The project aims to create a base for long-stay tourists attracted by the new dinosaur museum, which has already exceeded its annual target of 35,000 visitors. Using trailers reduces initial investment and construction time compared to building hotels. The project is seen as an experiment to gain experience and later scale across Japan.
