Cornwall campsite Silver Sands completes £1m revamp for 80th anniversary

A campsite near Brecon in Powys, Wales, has been granted permission to operate year-round. The application by Paul Barnes of the Caravan and Motorhome Club was driven by demand for winter holiday pitches. The site will reduce its official pitch count from 200 to 150. The extension is expected to add £171,000 to the local economy and support three jobs.

British company Wheelhome has introduced the Dashaway ECT, a compact camper trailer originally designed as a module for the Tesla Model 3. The trailer comes in two versions: ECTS for one person (400 kg, bed 196x80 cm) and ECT2 for two (370 kg, bed 196x127 cm). In travel mode, height is 1.10 m; on site, it rises to 1.83 m in five minutes. Equipment includes an induction hob, 200 W solar panel, lithium batteries, and a portable toilet. UK price starts at £15,500; deliveries to the Netherlands and Belgium are not yet confirmed.

Conservative councillor Brian Jones has criticized Denbighshire County Council's proposal to convert former playing fields on Marine Drive into an overnight motorhome aire. He argues the site should be returned to green space as originally promised after the Rhyl East Flood Defence Scheme. Residents and fellow councillors support the Save Marine Drive Playing Fields campaign. A public meeting is scheduled for June 3.

Owners of Whitwell and Reepham station in Norfolk have submitted amended plans to expand the campsite. Originally proposing 15 pitches, the plan was reduced to five static caravans and two shepherd's huts following objections over highway safety. The application is with Broadland District Council.

Solo traveller Beth Eve visited Trevornick Holiday Park in Cornwall, named Holiday Park of the Year 2024/25. The park holds five-star ratings from AA and the English Tourism Council. She highlighted a mobile app for activities, generous pitch sizes for tents and caravans, and amenities including tennis courts, a swimming pool, arcade, evening entertainment, bike tracks, and a fishing pond. The park is a 10-minute walk from the north coast.

According to Bailey of Bristol, buyers are increasingly prioritising space, flexible layouts and off-grid capability. Among touring caravans, larger twin-axle models like the Pegasus Black Bologna are attracting strong interest for extended trips and year-round use. In the motorhome sector, layouts such as the Adamo 75-4DL with separate lounge areas remain popular. Compact campervans like the Endeavour B62 continue to appeal for their versatility in both touring and daily driving.
