Camping and motorhomes: new shows and traveler stories

The Am Hoschenhof campsite in Neukirchen-Vluyn/Rheurdt will be completely dissolved. Instead of the expected new development plan, residents were informed that the site has no future. The exact eviction date has not yet been announced.

On April 30, 2026, Radio Bremen will broadcast the documentary 'Young Adventurers — Roadtrip Richtung Osten'. Alex Baur and Lorenz Jeric traveled 6,000 km in a converted van from northern Germany through Eastern Europe and Turkey to the Iranian border. The film features wild camping spots in the Carpathians and Istanbul's queer scene.

A fire alarm in Irsingen on Wednesday evening triggered a large-scale response from multiple fire departments. Smoke was detected from a barn on the southern edge of Irsingen, where motorhomes were stored. Firefighters from Irsingen, Türkheim, and Bad Wörishofen used breathing apparatus and thermal imaging cameras to quickly bring the situation under control. The cause is suspected to be a technical defect; damage assessment is ongoing.

A fee-based campsite for 100 motorhomes and 300 tents is open on the outskirts of Munich from mid-March to late October. Seasonal rates for motorhomes: €18–20.10 per night, adult €8.90, child €4.40. Facilities include a kiosk, snack bar, shower (€2.20), electricity (€5.80/day), dogs allowed (€4.30), and grilling permitted. Nearby attractions: Hellabrunn Zoo, Bavaria Film Studios, BMW Welt, and others.

During a border check in Freilassing, police stopped a camper van with an unusual load. Inside were 12 guinea pigs, 8 boxes of bumblebees, and 3 boxes of insects (spider mites, aphids, predatory mites, parasitic wasps, and gall midges). The driver lacked import certificates required under the internal market animal health regulations. The guinea pigs were taken to a shelter, and the driver faces a fine.
