A trailer hotel, JR Mobile Inn Hakodate, has opened in a parking lot near the railway station in Hakodate. Rooms accommodate up to 4 people and are designed in a classic style reminiscent of sleeper cars.
Developer Misawa Home, together with JAXA, is working on a lunar base project. To test extreme-living technologies, conditions in Antarctica were chosen, allowing the trailers to be adapted for cold climates. Rooms are equipped with life-support systems developed for polar stations, maintaining comfortable temperature and humidity. The project has drawn attention as an example of adapting polar technology for the civilian market.
