Spanish couple Irene and Carlos, known on social media as @unavidacamper, left their home three years ago to travel across Spain and Europe in a motorhome. They live in just 10 square meters and say that "although there isn't much space, each one has their own corner." They named their converted van "Pomboneta."
The pair has developed four rules to maintain a good relationship in such a confined area: respect each other's personal time, avoid making important decisions when tired at the end of the day, discuss small problems immediately before they escalate, and acknowledge the positive moments of each day. They also plan their routes in advance to prevent conflicts.
Irene is Galician, Carlos is Venezuelan, and they met in Buenos Aires. Since 2023, they have been traveling in a converted van across eight countries. Their monthly expenses amount to about 1432 euros, including 180 euros for fuel, 114 euros for communication, 83 euros for their two pets, and 45 euros for laundry. The couple advises having an emergency fund of 2000 euros, a tested electrical system, and a backup charging plan, as well as solving the internet connection issue if you work remotely. They emphasize that practical skills matter more than having a remote job for this lifestyle. According to the source, monthly living costs in a camper in Spain range from 500 to 1200 euros per person, excluding the purchase of the vehicle. A used camper costs from 20,000 euros, a new one from 40,000 to 70,000 euros.
The couple notes that life in a camper is not always cheaper and not always accompanied by scenic views. They advise beginners to have a reserve fund, not to overestimate the driving range, avoid night drives, and plan the overnight stop in advance to avoid stress.
