A Rivian R1S owner is towing a 19-foot inTech Sol Horizon camper on a 4,000-mile trip, aware of its inefficiency. On the first leg of 156.6 miles, the vehicle consumed 144.6 kWh, averaging 1.1 mi/kWh (92.3 kWh per 100 miles). The owner is using the journey to decide whether a more aerodynamic trailer, such as a Casita or Scamp, is worth the investment. Earlier, on a 828.1-mile shakedown trip between Seattle and Post Falls, towing efficiency was 1.17 mi/kWh. The owner notes that efficiency is affected not only by weight but also by aerodynamics and additional equipment like a roof rack.
