Cult Camper in Spielberg: Pool, Alcohol, and a Call from Mateschitz

Anna Leili from BRG/BORG Schloss Traunsee won third place in the Dr. Hans Riegel-Fachpreis in Architecture for her project converting a Ford Transit into a camper. She plans to travel to Corsica with her family this summer.

The Falkensteiner Group, which considers Carinthia one of its key markets, recently acquired the campsite in the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee near Klagenfurt. The site now features a new reception, restaurant, and shop, with 40% of its 337 pitches occupied. The company plans to extend the season to year-round, renovate sanitary facilities and pitches, and add mobile homes. Additionally, after resolving a dispute with former permanent campers, Falkensteiner is preparing to build a campsite at Lake Hafnersee: the project includes 170 pitches, new infrastructure, a spa, and the renovation of a former hotel. Investment totals €35 million, with opening scheduled for autumn 2027.

Since June 22, 2026, Leoben has added two new motorhome parking areas: 'Schladnitzer Dorfstadl Camping' and Stellplatz Steinscherer. The projects were launched by the Erzberg-Leoben tourism association to meet growing demand in the camping segment. The first site features sanitary facilities and a self-check-in system, while the second offers two central pitches. The new facilities are expected to boost local economic impact by attracting active tourists.

A new forest campsite with 43 pitches opens in St. Corona am Wechsel, Austria, as the planned 3-star hotel project is postponed due to lack of an operator. On June 21, 2026, at around 1:45 PM, a motorcyclist riding uphill on the B165 in Hainzenberg, Austria, fell in a curve and collided with an oncoming motorhome. The motorcyclist was uninjured. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed. Emergency services, police, and road maintenance crews responded.
