Norwegian municipalities consider basic parking for motorhomes

Near the Preikestolen trail in Rogaland, motorhomes with foreign plates are occupying road shoulders and parking areas, including waste disposal stations and commuter lots, leading to complaints about unsanitary conditions. The manager of Preikestolen Camping reports finding feces on her property, and the mayor of Strand municipality plans to bring up potential parking restrictions at the autumn council meeting. Similar issues are reported in Lofoten, Senja, Stegastein, and Vøringsfossen, where roadside parking and overnight stays create challenges for traffic flow and safety.

The municipality of Ringsaker has asked the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to approve signs prohibiting overnight parking and sleeping in motorhomes and caravans at the municipal car park by Jessnes beach. The move follows complaints that long-term parked motorhomes occupy spaces needed for day visitors, especially families with children. The consultation deadline is 3 August.
