Caravanning for Culture: Best Campsites in the Five Largest Czech Cities

The camp in Strážnice (South Moravia) has more than 300 caravan pitches, allowing guests to arrive without a reservation, unlike many other camps. Operators report growing demand for caravanning since the COVID-19 pandemic and are adapting infrastructure: adding electricity, Wi-Fi, grey water disposal, and planning larger, more luxurious pitches with water supply. The season is lengthening – some camps open as early as Easter and stay open until October. To cope with labor shortages, automated reception systems and vending machines are being introduced.

Fullvans, founded by racer Petr Fulín, produces camper vans on a conveyor belt using standardized parts. Delivery time is 30 days, conversion costs range from 380,000 to 617,000 CZK.

A rare Karosa W 4 Dingo caravan from 1961 has been put up for sale. Fewer than 50 units of this model were produced. The caravan features a low weight of about 400 kg thanks to its fiberglass body and compact dimensions (length 3750 mm). The unit with serial number 004 is priced at 300,000 CZK.

Campgrounds in the Moravian-Silesian Region are preparing improvements for the summer season, including more caravan spaces and infrastructure upgrades. The regional council allocated CZK 33.8 million for tourism projects. In Nový Jičín, a renovated swimming pool with a 50-meter pool and AngelEye drowning detection system opens after CZK 108 million reconstruction.

Turkish manufacturer Serm & Barr has launched the single-axle xBarr 600 QUW caravan on the European market. Starting price is about 831,000 CZK (€34,000), half that of European equivalents. It sleeps four, includes a kitchen and bathroom, but towing may require an upgraded license.
