Fehmarn: Baltic Sea island for surfers and campers

In Mettmann South, motorhomes, commercial vehicles, and long-term parkers are blocking streets. The city administration proposes a parking management zone with a three-hour maximum stay and an annual resident permit for €75. The proposal goes to the planning committee on June 2. Residents had previously complained about permanently parked motorhomes, but a full ban was deemed legally unenforceable.

A retro campsite has opened at Gräbendorfer See, a former open-pit coal mine in Brandenburg that was flooded from 1996 to 2007, becoming the first fully flooded pit lake in the state. The campsite is run by Uwe Stephan, offering a nostalgic atmosphere for visitors. The lake has a 9.4 km walking trail, and its 170-hectare island is off-limits due to nesting by over 10 bird species.

On Monday morning, a 70-year-old driver lost control of his motorhome on Dorfstrasse in Kutenholz-Essel (Lower Saxony). The vehicle knocked down several meters of wooden fence, ran over a tree, and stopped in bushes on private property. The driver was unhurt; the motorhome was towed.

Freaks of Fashion, based in Hamburg, has introduced a line of stickers, decorative films, and accessories for motorhomes, camper vans, and boats. The range includes exterior decals with sports and wildlife themes, as well as interior films for furniture. Products are available in multiple colors.

Police in Mettmann, with assistance from colleagues in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, located and seized two stolen vehicles. A VW T6, stolen in Velbert, was tracked by its owner via a tracking app and found at the 'Börde Süd' rest area near Magdeburg, where it was being loaded onto a Polish truck. A Dodge RAM, stolen in Dortmund, was also on the trailer. The 41-year-old Polish driver was arrested.

Wangerland Touristik GmbH (WTG) has confirmed that offers for the Schillig campsite and the Friesland-Therme have been received and are under evaluation. For the Thalasso Sea Spa (TMS), a separate bidding process is underway, with interested parties required to submit concepts and offers by August 6. A final decision on the TMS is expected by the end of September.
