Japan Tightens Oversight on Overloaded Trailers and Special Vehicles

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is strengthening measures against overloading of trailers and other special vehicles. Data shows 140,000–150,000 overload violations annually from 2021 to 2023, with about 5,000 out of 9,000 offending operators lacking permits. The ministry plans to revise regulations: issue warnings after a first violation for unlicensed vehicles, lower the threshold for administrative guidance from 20 violations in 3 months to 20 in 2 years, and facilitate criminal prosecution when road infrastructure is damaged.

ALFLEX unveils new ELEMENT camper van with modular options

ALFLEX has announced a new variant of its popular ELEMENT series of camper vans. The model will debut on June 6, 2026 at the Kansai Camping Car Festival 2026 in Kobe, followed by a showing on June 13 at Motor Camp Expo 2026 in Osaka. Key features include a 1.7×1.6 m bunk bed, a pull-out kitchen with a two-burner stove and sink, and a modular system of trim and accessories that lets buyers choose colors and equipment. The MOBIFRAME seats meet international safety standards, include ISOFIX child seat anchors, and convert into a bed in about 20 seconds.

Vlogger shows overnight stay in camper van on Kamogawa coast with ¥1,200 fishing gear

The creator of YouTube channel 'Umiko’s Journey' posted a video featuring an overnight stay in a self-converted light van at a beachside campsite in Kamogawa, Chiba Prefecture. She cooked dinner using a rice cooker and fished in tide pools with a ¥700 mini rod from Daiso combined with a ¥500 reel. After dinner, she visited a local hot spring resort.

Japan RV Association certifies 10 new RV Parks, total reaches 644 nationwide

The Japan RV Association (JRVA) certified 10 new RV Park facilities in May 2026. As of June 1, the total number of such parks across the country reached 644. New locations are in Yamaguchi, Fukushima, and Tochigi prefectures.

KS Factory unveils retro-styled Toyota HiAce camper van

Japanese tuning shop KS Factory has introduced the KS Classic Style camper van based on the Toyota HiAce Super GL. The exterior features round headlights and a JAOS skid bar for a retro look. Inside, it uses Brooklyn Style furniture with corduroy upholstery and a folding table. The rear has a fold-out bed with mattress storage, and roof rails allow mounting gear like fishing rods or surfboards.

120th installment of 'Golf Maniac' diary about camper van golf trips published in Japan

Former office worker Kimura Koichi, known as the 'Golf Maniac', released the 120th entry in his diary about traveling across Japan with overnight stays in a camper van. In this installment, he tackled four courses in Kumamoto Prefecture: Grand Champion Golf Club, Kumamoto Golf Club Aso Yunotani Course, Kumamoto Crown Golf Club, and Kahoku Golf Club. He slept at the parking lots of roadside stations 'Otsu' and 'Uki', and also visited the 'Misato Samata no Yu' hot spring.
