A campsite located along the Valley of the Gods road in Utah has been named the best in the U.S. by The Dyrt for 2026. The site has no water, electricity or shade, yet earned high visitor ratings.
According to The Dyrt's 2026 Best Places to Camp: Top 10, three of the ten best spots are free dispersed camping areas on public land, including Valley of the Gods in Utah, Scoria Pit in North Dakota, and The Wall in South Dakota. Overall, five of the ten are free and located on public land.
The Dyrt's report also shows that 59.8% of campers stayed for free at least once last year, and 79.1% of them practiced dispersed camping.
