A study by CamperDays compared the total costs of a campervan trip versus a combination of a rental car and hotel in Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Germany. The analysis considered average prices for rental, fuel and accommodation for 2025–2026.
In peak season, the campervan is 10–14% cheaper due to sharper hotel price increases. In Sweden and Norway, a campervan trip in peak season is 13–14% cheaper than a hotel and rental car combination; in Iceland the difference is about 10%. In low season, the difference is around 8%.
