Liu Peijin, a 69-year-old veteran from Changle County, Shandong Province, has been caring for his wife for 17 years after she became partially paralyzed due to diabetes complications since 2010. Starting in 2015, the couple gradually expanded their trips from nearby provinces to a nationwide tour. Over 12 years, they visited 31 Chinese provinces, including Xinjiang twice and Tibet in 2021. In 2026, Liu completed his second road trip to Xinjiang.
During the journeys, he administers four daily insulin injections, monitors blood sugar, and uses rehabilitation equipment. They travel in a self-converted minibus. According to Liu, his wife's mental state has improved dramatically — "a hundred times" better than during hospital stays. He plans to continue traveling in 2026 despite an upcoming driving skills test at age 70.
