Greece has adjusted its rules for motorhomes and caravans after the 2025 law, which limited parking near beaches and public spaces, sparked discontent and a sharp drop in visitor numbers. According to new clarifications from the Ministry of Tourism, camper vans may park like regular vehicles as long as local regulations are followed.
Key changes
- Motorhomes up to 7.5 m can stop in residential areas without time restrictions.
- Larger motorhomes and trailers are limited to 24 hours.
- Setting up awnings, tables, chairs or other equipment outside official campsites is prohibited. Violations carry fines from 300 euros and possible arrest.
Sources report that in 2024 Greece received 50,000 motorhomes; after the tightening, that number fell to 5,000. Tourism industry representatives stress that clarity and predictability of rules will be crucial for attracting camper travellers.
