A Seattle City Council committee approved a package of bills banning overnight parking of RVs without a permit on most streets. Most RVs and trailers would be allowed to park on streets for no more than two hours.
Assistance program
The Vehicle Resident Assistance Program allocates $5 million from the already approved budget for outreach, safe parking, vehicle storage, and housing connection services. To obtain a permit, owners must complete a one-time census, own the vehicle, maintain contact with service providers, and follow registration, waste disposal, and noise rules. The permit allows overnight stays only in industrial zones for up to 72 hours and can be revoked after six refusals of housing or storage offers.
Timeline and next steps
The program takes effect on April 30, 2027, with enforcement starting no later than July 31, 2027, after a 90-day warning period. Councilmember Dan Strauss said the package aims to encourage a transition to more stable housing. The legislation now goes to a full council vote.
