Swedish motorhome buyers report hidden defects, seek compensation

Several buyers of used motorhomes in Sweden have discovered serious hidden defects shortly after purchase. One received compensation via ARN, another took the seller to court, and a third awaits a decision on a luxury vehicle worth 2.7 million SEK

Bought a motorhome for SEK 600,000 – broke down after an hour

A resident of Eslöv municipality purchased a used motorhome from a dealer in Västerås last December. According to the buyer, the vehicle was supposed to be freshly serviced and faultless, but problems began during the drive home. When accelerating, the motorhome lost power and the engine started over-revving. The seller denied any issues. An authorized workshop later found multiple technical faults related to engine control and drivetrain, as well as damage to the exhaust system and diesel particulate filter. Frozen water was also found in a pump, indicating the vehicle was not properly winterized. The buyer is seeking to void the purchase; the case is being reviewed by the ARN.

Authorities warn of vehicle break-ins in Sweden

Several countries, including Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, have issued warnings about thefts and attacks on tourists sleeping in motorhomes and caravans at parking lots in southern and western Sweden. Particularly vulnerable are rest areas along the E6 route, areas near the ports of Malmö and Trelleborg, and the vicinity of Gothenburg. Authorities recommend using guarded campsites, hiding valuables, and storing documents separately.
