Palo Alto City Council is considering a program that would ban oversized vehicles and RVs from parking on certain streets and introduce permits for parking in some areas. A council committee proposed issuing parking permits for 37 RVs in two zones and imposing restrictions on 22 streets with alternating sides every six months. The full council will review the proposal on August 24.

The pilot program is planned for one year. Its cost is estimated at $823,800, while citywide restrictions are estimated at $4.5 million. A permit may cost up to $15 per month. Officials report that about 73% of the city's homeless residents live in vehicles, higher than the county average of 53%. The first phase of the pilot program, which included a ban on trailers and street cleaning, reduced such vehicles from 191 to 133 between January and May.
