The Palo Alto City Council is considering a proposal to prohibit oversized vehicles and RVs from parking on alternating sides of certain streets, with permits for some areas. Officials said about 73% of the city's unhoused residents live in vehicles, compared to 53% countywide. Phase 1 of the pilot program, which banned detached trailers and added street cleaning, reduced such vehicles from 191 to 133 between January and May. Phase 2, if approved, would last 12 months, allow 37 eligible residents to park at designated spots for up to $15 per month, and prohibit parking on alternating sides during six months of the year on busier streets.
