On June 23, 2026, China's Ministry of Commerce, together with eight other agencies, published a notice on measures to develop the automotive aftermarket. The document includes 17 specific steps in six areas: tuning, RV camping, classic cars, maintenance, motorsports and rental.
As part of the initiative, 40 pilot cities for automotive market reform have been designated. Among them, Yangzhou (Jiangsu Province) will focus on developing RV camping. The agencies intend to simplify camping registration, improve infrastructure (water, electricity) and ease restrictions on pickup truck access to cities. A national standard for tuning is introduced for the first time.
Vice Minister Sheng Qiuping noted that the global aftermarket has exceeded 1 trillion dollars, and in China the share of cars older than 7 years has exceeded 50% for the first time. According to the ministry, by the end of 2025 China's car fleet reached 370 million vehicles, and new car sales have ranked first in the world for 17 consecutive years.
