Volkswagen has unveiled updated versions of the California camper and the base Multivan for mid-2026. The key innovation is a stationary climate control system that runs for up to 8 hours on the traction battery of the eHybrid 4Motion version (19.7 kWh). The system is available only on PHEV variants and does not replace the standard diesel heater.
The front lighting, radiator grille, and interior have been refreshed, including a 12.9-inch display and an improved Travel Assist package with traffic light recognition and automatic lane changing. A new matte paint color Iridium Gray Matte is offered. The California comes in Beach, Coast, and Ocean trims, plus a new Generation special series with two-tone Candy White and Sunset Red.
The eHybrid powertrain remains unchanged at 180 kW (245 hp) with a 19.7 kWh battery, offering up to 95 km of electric range (WLTP) and fast charging at up to 50 kW. Prices in Germany start at €66,087 for the California and €57,465 for the Multivan. The update targets the European market; US pricing has not been announced.
