In Brief

In 2025, 12 million Americans engaged in overlanding. Canada's Tactical Overland launched the Skookum trailer for $36,000, Australia's Invader introduced the Viator for $33,000, and Noovo unveiled the luxury Next on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for $232,750.

Rise of overlanding

According to Outside Magazine, 12 million Americans participated in overlanding in 2025, up 4 million from 2024. This style of travel in prepared off-road vehicles with rooftop tents emphasizes self-sufficiency and rough terrain, unlike vanlife's aesthetic focus.

New models

Canadian company Tactical Overland unveiled the Skookum off-road camper trailer priced at CAD 50,000 (USD 36,000). The 4.8 m long, 2.0 m wide model features a pop-up roof forming a double bed, with over 2.4 m of interior height. Inside is an L-shaped sofa converting to a second double bed. Kitchen and shower are external. Power comes from a 100 Ah self-heating lithium battery, Planar diesel heater, and optional Renogy 2000 W inverter. Fresh water capacity is 72 L.

Australia's Invader Off-Road Campers launched the flagship Viator caravan. The 5.5 m, 1250 kg prototype has an automatic pop-up roof, double bed, separate shower and toilet, and external kitchen module. Launch price is $33,000.

Canadian company Noovo presented the Next camper on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 chassis. It includes a king bed, full bathroom, kitchen, and autonomous power system. Production starts spring 2026, starting price $232,750.
